J-1 Waivers
Partner Michael Jolic was retained to personally handle a J-1 waiver application for Dr. I, a physician in J-1 status trained in Emergency Medicine. In order to secure approval, attorney Jolic submitted a J-1 waiver application to the Maryland Department of Health, which recommended the case for approval to the Appalachian Regional Commission (ARC). Thereafter, the ARC recommended the application for approval to the US Department of State, which ultimately recommended the case for final approval to USCIS. Dr. I received her J-1 waiver application in late June and her change of status from J-1 to H-1B was granted with an effective date of July 1, 2022. She will be required to practice medicine in her specialty in the underserved area in the State of Maryland for three (3) years.
