Asylum from Nicaragua
Attorney Cerena Ibara-Cech recently helped a reporter from Nicaragua obtain asylum approval before the asylum office. As a reporter, she was fearful of harm from the Ortega government in Nicaragua, which has been heavily targeting opponents and those who report on the government’s misdoings. This woman had tried to file her asylum application on her own but had it rejected due to technical problems with the application. With Attorney Cerena’s help, the application was properly filed in February. After an interview in May, the approval notice just arrived in July. This woman is now able to stay safely in the United States and submit applications to have her children join her.
